Our commitment to you
Privacy notice
What we hold about you, why we hold it, how long for, and what you can ask us to do about it.
Written by the parish, in plain English. If any of it is unclear, say so and we will fix the wording.
3CLove is run by CCC Mountain of New Glory, at 14 Lockett Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester M8 8EE. The church is the data controller: it decides what is held about you and why, and it is answerable for it.
The short version: we hold what you tell us and what we need to keep you safe, we do not sell any of it, we do not advertise, and we do not track you anywhere else on the internet.
What we hold, and whyRead moreCloseSix kinds of information, each with its own reason and its own clock.
| What | For example | Why | Our lawful basis | How long |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Your account | Email address, your password stored as a hash we cannot reverse, and the internet address and browser you signed in from. | To give you the account you asked for. | Performing our contract with you | While your account is open, then erased. |
| Your profile | Age, city, occupation, education, what you want from a marriage, your photographs. | So members who might suit you can find you, and you them. | Your consent, which you can withdraw | While your account is open. |
| Your faith and your genotype | Parish, baptism, church role, attendance, and genotype if you give it. | Because they are the reasons most members are here. Genotype is shown with a note where it is worth discussing, and never used to hide anybody from anybody. | Your explicit consent, asked for separately | While your account is open. You can withdraw this and keep the account. |
| Your identity document and video | Passport, driving licence or national identity card, and a short video. Our software reads the date of birth and expiry from the document and compares your face in the video with its photograph. | To check that every member is a real adult, which is what makes this safe. | Our legitimate interest in safeguarding members, and your explicit consent for the face comparison, asked for before you record | A file sent back to be redone, or replaced by a newer one, is deleted at once. Otherwise deleted thirty days after your check is finished. The record of what the check found, without the document or the video, is kept while your account is open. |
| Your messages and calls | What you write to another member, and the fact and length of a call. We do not record the audio or video of a call. | To carry the conversation, to screen it for anything worrying, and to investigate a report if one is made. | Performing our contract with you | While both accounts are open. |
| Your payments | What was paid, when, and the reference from our payment provider. Never your card number, which we never receive. | Because the church has to keep its books. | Our legal obligation | For as long as tax law requires, even after your account closes. |
Who else sees itRead moreCloseThree companies, each doing one job, and none of them selling anything about you.
Stripe takes payments. They receive your name, email address and card details, which we never see, and use them to take the payment and to prevent fraud.
Google provides the model that can draft profile wording for you, helps suggest matches, and screens messages and profile photographs so that anything worrying reaches a moderator. It is never sent your identity document. What it flags is only ever held back until a person has looked: a flagged photograph stays hidden, a flagged message is read by a moderator, and a serious flag pauses the account until a moderator has looked at it.
Resend sends our email. They handle your address and the contents of the messages we send you, such as a verification link.
Nobody else. We do not sell information about you, we do not share it for anybody's marketing, and there is no advertising on 3CLove. Other members see only what you publish on your profile.
Where it is keptRead moreCloseOn a server, run by the church.
Photographs and identity documents sit in private storage that is never publicly readable, and are served only through links that expire in minutes.
Our payment, email and model providers may process information outside the United Kingdom under the safeguards their own agreements require.
What you can ask us to doRead moreCloseAll eight rights under the UK GDPR, and how to use them here.
You can ask us to:
- tell you everything we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your account and what is in it;
- stop doing something with your information, or pause it;
- hand your information to you in a portable form;
- withdraw a consent you gave, including the separate consent for your faith details and your genotype, without losing your account.
Taking a copy, deleting your account and withdrawing the consent you gave for your faith details are all buttons, on the “Your data” page when you are signed in, and none of them waits on anybody. Your genotype you clear on your profile, which withdraws that consent with it. The rest are done by writing to the church office, and we answer within one month, as the law requires.
Withdrawing your faith consent removes your parish, your baptism and the rest of those answers. Two of them are answers a profile cannot be published without, so your profile comes down from Discover at the same time. You keep your account, and you can answer them again whenever you like.
Some things survive a deletion because the church is obliged to keep them: payment records for as long as tax law says, the fact that an identity document existed and was destroyed, though never the scan itself, and the record of a safeguarding report while it is still relevant. Where a report about you is unresolved we also keep the email address you signed in with, so that deleting an account cannot be a way back under the same address. We would rather say all of that plainly than promise you an erasure that is not complete.

Automated decisionsRead moreCloseSoftware checks your identity and suggests matches. A person can always look again.
Your identity is checked by software that runs on the church's own server: no outside company sees your document or your video. It reads the machine readable lines on your document to confirm you are 18 or over and that it is in date, checks you followed the head turns shown on screen, and compares your face with the document's photograph. If everything agrees, you are verified straight away. If your document shows you are under 18 or it has expired, it is refused. Anything else it cannot settle, it passes to a person from the church. It never refuses anybody because of how their face compared.
You can ask for a person to look at any automatic decision about you, by writing to the church office, and a moderator can withdraw an automatic approval and tell you why. Nothing measured from your face is kept after the check: only whether it matched, and the score.
Matching suggestions are produced by software and are only suggestions. Automatic checks can flag a photograph or a message. A flagged photograph stays hidden until a moderator has looked at it, and where a check finds something serious, your account is paused until a moderator has looked. Only a person from the church can suspend or close your account.
Genotype is never used to hide one member from another. Where two genotypes are worth discussing, we say so and suggest speaking to a pastor.
